The machine was speaking its own language (by leaving marks with its needles), different to ours, that would ask for empathy and imagination to start a conversation. An attempt not to meet the alien machine with our human standards and realities, but to gain skills in understanding both its "otherness" as well as&nbsp; possible analogies to ourselves, the maker of its kind.
